KIT KAT 4 Finger is Fairtrade

Fairtrade certified KIT KAT 4 Finger bars being sold in the UK from mid-January 2010

Like UTZ, Fairtrade focuses on better farming practices, but also on empowering producers by providing a better deal and improved trading terms, which it sets out for all to see. As part of this, Fairtrade supports producers to organise themselves into cooperatives. There they have a voice in decision-making and are paid a premium for their cocoa. With these additional funds, cooperative members can develop their community, or make quality and environmental improvements.

The Cocoa Plan shares many of the same goals as Fairtrade: we both want to get closer to farmers and strengthen cooperatives to give farmers more control. Like Fairtrade, we want to reduce the links in the supply chain and help local social development.

Fairtrade brings income security to farmers who know they’ll get a better price with a long-term commitment. Farmers are independently audited to ensure that high social, environmental and economic standards are met.
