EFFECTIVE MICROORGANISMS USED IN COCOA CROPS

Nestlé Cocoa Plan in collaboration with authorities of Puerto Quito community deliver effective microorganisms to cocoa plan farmers.

In order to foster the land reclamation in agricultural activities, the NCP team delivered effective microorganisms to the cocoa plan farmers. These microorganisms are conformed mainly for yeasts, lactic acid bacterias and photosynthetic bacterias that can be applied to the degrading of organic waste, disease suppressants and pathogens in plants and soil, as well as producing bioactive components such as vitamins, hormones and enzymes that stimulate plant growth.

In November 2016, Nestle Ecuador donated 500 liters of effective microorganisms strain to 250 Cocoa Plan farmers who were also trained in topics related to the uses and benefits of this technique. The objective of this initiative is to replicate these microorganisms within the land by implementing the learned method. This will guarantee the reduction of the transmission rate of fungal diseases in cocoa crop, the boost in productivity and with this, significant increases in our farmer's income.
